Description

Braving a long and rutted dirt road rewards the traveler with a stunning beach park. Picnicking and tent camping on wild coastline with large sand beach backed by dunes. Scenic setting, colorful sunsets and good views of the high sea cliffs of Na Pali Coast. Swimming in summer during calm conditions; shore fishing. Beware of strong, offshore currents. Hot, dry area.

 

Road leading to park is an unimproved dirt road that may flood during rains and become impassable, other areas have deep sand.  Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.  Rental car companies may prohibit use of their vehicles on thie park access road.

 

Polihale offers beachfront tent camping opportunities with minimally developed campsites.

 

Camping Rates:

 

Hawaii Residents:  $12 per campsite per night for up to 6 persons; $2 per night for each additional person*.  Maximum fee per site: $20/night.

 

Non-residents:  $18 per campsite per night for up to 6 persons; $3 per night for each additional person*.  Maximum fee per site: $30/night.

Location

End of 5-mile long dirt road from Mana Village, off Kaumuali'i Highway (Highway 50).

Road leading to park is an unimproved dirt road that may flood during rains and become impassable, other areas have deep sand.  Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.  Rental car companies may prohibit use of their vehicles on thie park access road.



Special Conditions

May occupy camp site from 1:00 p.m. on first day of reservation and must leave camp site by 12:00 p.m. on departure date.
Only names listed are covered by this permit. CAMPING ALLOWED ONLY AT AREAS DESIGNATED FOR CAMPING. Site selection is on a first-come, first-served basis - there are designated camp areas but no numbered campsites at this park.

Remote Area--no security personnel, no emergency services or cell phone coverage at this park. NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED. Cook on campstoves or portable grills only. Park vehicles in designated parking areas only. NO DRIVING ON DUNES OR ON BEACH. Camp site and surrounding area must be cleaned and fires put out before departure.
