Manana Trail Division of Forestry and Wildlife

Description

Ewa Forest Reserve (Waimano section).  The trail ascends up the ridge and climbs up and down each puu to reach the Ko`olau Ridge Summit in about 6 miles. The trail initially climbs through eucalyptus, brushbox, and guava. However, once in the native forest, naupaka, koa, ohia, lobelia, olapa, and kopiko are common. The views, birds and plants observing make this lung-buster worth the climb! The latter half of the trail is not regularly maintained and may be difficult for inexperienced hikers. This trail traverses a public hunting area - hikers should exercise caution. Wear bright colored clothing and be aware that you may encounter hunters who may be hunting off trail - stay on the trail. Campsites not designated.  Camping is allowed anywhere within the trail corridor (10 feet from center line), but camping at the trail shelters is preferred.

Know before you go! All Forest Reserves will be closed during Tropical Storm and Hurricane Warnings.  Keep informed on weather conditions and forecasts.

NO GROUND FIRES.  Camp fires must be in a container such as a hibachi or 50 gallon drum.  Almost all wildfires in our Forest Reserves are caused by campfires.  Make sure you put it our before you hike out!

See the brochure, Hiking Safely in Hawaii

No changes will be accepted to an existing permit less than seven (7) days prior to the check-in date.  Permits are not transferable. No refunds will be given if requested within 15 days of your first scheduled camping day - all payments will be forfeited.  Permit must be printed, signed and in your possession while camping.

Location

From H-1, exit at the Pearl City/Waimalu exit. Turn right on Moanalua Road at the end of the ramp. As Moanalua Road ends, turn right on Waimano Home Road. Turn left onto Komo Mai Drive, driving through Pacific Palisades to the end of the road. A locked gate restricts vehicular traffic beyond this point. Park here, and proceed on foot through the pedestrian passageway adjacent of the gate. The road becomes the trail just past the water tank. Campers must find legal parking in the adjacent neighborhood.  Please park responsibly and do not leave valuables in you vehicle.
